Felix Stoever (1972–2010) was a North German artist and a graduate physicist whose unique work forged a fascinating bridge between natural science, fluorescence physics, and the subcultural psytrance aesthetic. His fluorescent and phosphorescent artworks unfold a magical intensity under black light and UV light.

Physics Studies at DESY & Psytrance Subculture

Felix Stoever was born in Lüneburg in 1972 and grew up in Apensen near Buxtehude. He studied physics at the University of Hamburg and completed his diploma thesis in 2007 at the renowned research center DESY. This scientific foundation significantly shaped his painterly work.

Since the early 1990s, he simultaneously made a name for himself in the psytrance and Goa scene: he designed elaborate festival decorations, created album covers and flyers, and mastered the physical effect of luminous color pigments.

Style & Technique: Blacklight Art Between Visible and Invisible

Stoever combined his deep physical understanding of fluorescence and phosphorescence with the psychedelic energy of the art scene. His works make the invisible visible under UV and black light, symbolizing the connection between the earthly and the spiritual.

Posthumous Rediscovery & Exhibitions

After his tragic death in November 2010 at the age of just 38, his works remained hidden for a long time. Since 2024, his spectacular UV artworks are once again receiving significant public recognition:

  • 2024: Solo exhibition at the Hamburg Art Gallery (Hamburg).
  • 2024: Exhibition "Parallel Universes" at the Science Experience Center at European XFEL (Schenefeld near Hamburg).
