Artistic Philosophy
"The shorter a picture lasts, the longer the experiences. The faster a picture, the longer the journey."
Influenced by a trip to the USA and worldwide impressions
Carl-Sebastian Lepper's talent was nurtured by his parents from an early age. A decisive turning point in his work was a stay in the USA in 1982: the light, the vast landscapes and the special way of life there inspired him to create his first work in oil paint and continue to shape his art to this day.
In the following years, Lepper undertook numerous study trips to Mexico, the Seychelles, Thailand and many southeastern European countries. The visual impressions gathered there continuously flow into his multi-layered painting.
Palette knife technique, oil painting and Hamburg motifs
Carl-Sebastian Lepper has lived and worked in Hamburg since 2001. The Hanseatic city with its dynamic port has become an integral part of his work. His paintings are created in an intellectual and emotional process - from the concept in his mind to the feeling to the virtuoso execution on canvas.
His characteristic painting style is characterized by:
- Oil painting & palette knife technique: Dynamic application of paint with a palette knife and brush for high plasticity.
- Refined mixed media: Structures developed over years that bring light and space to life.
- Maritime & Urban Motifs: Hamburg harbor, coastal lights, and worldwide travel impressions.
